Histori
In the 1950s, most of the Westchase was purchased by Robert E. Smith, a Houston oil expert and philanthropist famous for creating the Houston Colt.45 baseball team. In 1969, the Friendswood Development Company bought a plot of Smith soil to form what is now a Woodlake, a subdivision of housing at the junction of Westheimer and Gessner. In 1973, Westchase Corporation, the predecessor of the modern management district, bought 760 acres (3.1 km 2 ) from Smith soil and began preparing land packages for the company's development. Chevron and Western Geophysical were the first companies to set up operations in the district.
Construction on Beltway 8 (Sam Houston Tollway) through the area began in 1985 and was completed in 1988. Funding for this part of the highway is very challenging, since the right acquisition program of the Texas Department of Transportation coincided rapidly with the development of Westchase and Sharpstown, which caused by the energy crisis of the 1970s. To ensure that the highway will be built, landowners and developers in Westchase and Sharpstown form the Beltway 8 Group, which is coordinated with TxDOT to lock the property value at a price that the country can afford.
In the early 1990s, BMC Software moved its headquarters from Sugar Land to a new 20-story tower in Westchase.
The legislation that created the Westchase District was adopted by the 73rd State of Texas Legislature and became law on August 28, 1995.
In 2012, following the split from ConocoPhillips, Phillips 66 began construction at its 14-acre (5.7-hectare) headquarters in the district. The project was completed in 2016. In the same year, due to excess oil in 2010, Halliburton moved from a 48-hectare (19 hectare) campus near Chinatown, and Maersk Oil ended operations in the area.
