Putnam Hall School (opened for students September 1871 closed 1940) is a famous non-sectarian boarding school for girls previously located in Poughkeepsie, New York.

Former School, Brooks Seminary
Putnam Hall is the successor to the previous non-santarian boarding school school on the same property. It's called Brooks Seminary for Young Women . Brooks Seminary was founded September 1871 - shortly after the opening of Vassar College. Mary Bryan Johnson (the girl) is the founder. She and her future husband, Edward White, erected a building on six hectares of high ground in the southeastern part of Pougkeepsie at the corner of what was then Southeast Road and Hanscom. Due to competition from Vassar Preparatory School, Brooks Seminary moved to 11 Montague Terrace, Brooklyn, New York, circa 1880. Putnam Hall School
After the lapse of use as Vassar hotels and dormitories, Poughkeepsie buildings and properties were re-launched as a new female boarding school around 1901 under the name Putnam Hall.
Bartlett Park
Miss Ellen Clizbe Bartlett, who headed as owner and head of Putnam Hall when closed in 1940, donated six acres to the town of Poughkeepsie. Now the city park, known as Bartlett Park.

Founder of Brooks Seminary

Edward White (born November 14, 1844, Poughkeepsie; d 12 April 1914, Poughkeepsie) married Mary Bryan Johnson 30 July 1872. Mary founded Brooks Seminary before Vassar College was founded. He then leased his school to the institution and the building then went to Brooks Seminary to Putnam Hall. He died July 3, 1925, at the home of his daughter Mary Elizabeth White Miller (Mrs. C. O. Miller), in Stamford, Connecticut. Edward White is a banker and trustee. He's a cash register assistant from Chase National Bank of New York for three years and treasurer Erie R. R. fourteen years old.
