The Absorption of Student Absorption, known for sponsorship purposes as the Close of Students Hand-Taking Hacks , is a steep Listal National Hunt in the United Kingdom that is open to horses aged five years or more. It runs at the Old Course in Cheltenham at a distance of about 2 miles and 4ý furlongs (2 miles 4 furlongs and 78 yards, or 4,095 meters) , and during the walk there are sixteen fences jumping. This is a disability race for novice hunters with a defect rating between 0 and 145, and is scheduled to take place annually during the Cheltenham Festival in March.
The event was established when the fourth day was added to the Cheltenham Festival in 2005. The winning trip by Mattie Batchelor in the inaugural edition then won the Lester Award for Jump Ride of the Year. The race was sponsored by Jewson from 2005 to 2010 and run as Jewson Novices' Handicap Chase on the third day of the Festival. Jewson transferred their sponsorship to the new race at the 2011 Festivals, Jewson Novices' Chase, which remained on the third day while the Student Handicap Chase was moved into the final race on the opening day of the Festival. The title of the race celebrates the hundred years of the Cheltenham Festival in 2011. In 2012, the race is sponsored by Pulteney Land Investments and from 2013 to 2014 by Rewards4Racing. In 2015 it is sponsored by Barbados Chaps Restaurants and since 2016 the race has been sponsored by the Close Brothers Group.
