Histori

Ekspansi awal; beberapa rebranding

The Lake Buena Vista Shopping Village, which opened on 22 March 1975, was originally envisioned as a shopping mall area. Two years after its opening, the complex was renamed Walt Disney World Village. With the emergence of new management under Michael Eisner in 1984, Disney began searching for ways to keep travelers on the Walt Disney World property longer, and prevent them going for entertainment beyond the confines of Disney.

To compete with popular Church Street Station clubs in downtown Orlando, Disney announced the addition of Pleasure Island, featuring a nightclub featuring Disney's quality and creativity, to Walt Disney World Village on July 21, 1986. Construction begins in August and Pleasure Island opened on May 1, 1989, the same day as the Disney's Hollywood Studios theme park. Later that year, the complex was renamed the Disney Village Marketplace .

In the mid-1990s, the growth of Walt Disney World created the potential for further expansion, leading to a $ 1 billion investment in projects throughout the resort. The first World of Disney store opened October 2, 1996, in the Marketplace.

On June 20, 1995, major increases and expansions were announced for the area, with Disney Village Marketplace and Pleasure Island being combined into a brand new district called Downtown Disney . Re-branding was introduced on September 7, 1997. On September 15, the Downtown Disney West Side, a 66 acre expanse (27 ha), opened as a third shopping, dining and entertainment venue featuring La Nouba (permanent). performances that are part of Cirque du Soleil), DisneyQuest, and Virgin Megastore. Major changes to the complex also include the conversion of the Mickey Character Shop into the Disney World, becoming the world's largest Disney store, in addition to the expansion and upgrading of the AMC Pleasure Island Theaters, as well as the opening of Rainforest Cafe and Planet Hollywood. On September 27, 2008, the Pleasure Club nightclub closed.

The Downtown Disney complex acquires twin districts in California on January 12, 2001, with the addition of Downtown Disney at Disneyland Resort. A similar complex exists in other Disney resorts: Disney Village, which opened on April 12, 1992, at Disneyland Resort Paris; Ikspiari, which opened on July 7, 2000, at Tokyo Disney Resort; and Disneytown at Shanghai Disney Resort.

Renovation, expansion and renaming to Disney Springs

On March 14, 2013, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts chairman Tom Staggs announced that Downtown Disney would be redesigned and renamed to Disney Springs. The renovation and expansion of the 3-year project will include 150 new tenants, two parking structures, and an almost doubled mall area. Prior to this announcement, the last renovation of Downtown Disney occurred in 1997.

To facilitate regional development and capacity building, two large parking structures were built in the previous surface parking area. New construction features include a new bridge connecting the complex to the Saratoga Springs resort at Disney, with an advanced bridge connecting The Landing to Marketplace, The Springs, Town Center and West Side. High Line structure is built across the West Side to provide themes and shadows. In addition, a new bus terminal, with a dedicated bus line on Buena Vista Drive, was built; Buena Vista Drive is widened, and a new exit built from Interstate 4 goes directly to Disney Springs, as part of the increased traffic. The complex was renamed Disney Springs on September 29, 2015. The City Center, built just south of The Landing on the surface of a parking lot, opened on May 15, 2016, completed a major development on the project.

With the completion of renovations and expansions by early 2016, Disney Springs consists of four districts:

  • Market
  • The Landing (Renovation of Pleasure Island in 2015)
  • City Center (expansion 2016)
  • West Side

Area

Disney Springs is divided into four areas: Marketplace, The Landing, Town Center and West Side. The complex is bordered by Lake Buena Vista in the north and a parking garage and many surfaces to the south. Walt Disney Imagineering takes inspiration for Disney Springs from the real coastal towns found throughout Florida, such as St. Augustine and Coral Gables.

Creative director Dave Hoffman said about the area, "Each environment reflects its function and a fictitious time period when it is developed." According to the city's fictional history, Disney Springs was built in the mid-1800s by a cattle rancher who found a spring in the city and the city then flourished from the springs outward.

Marketplace

The Marketplace stores many stores and restaurants that are reminiscent of the American Craftsman style of the 1930s. The first restaurant in the Earl of Sandwich chain is located here. T-Rex Cafe is a dinosaur-themed restaurant operated by Landry's Restaurants, which features animatronic dinosaurs. Opened on October 14, 2008. Landry's Restaurants also operates the Rainforest Cafe at this location. The path that runs across Village Lake and connects Rainforest Cafe with Lego Store - The Marketplace Causeway - was built and opened in 2015.

The Landing

The Landing describes a fictitious city transportation center and marina. The Landing features a nautical-themed restaurant and shops, including Jock Lindsey's Hangar Bar - an aviation-themed diving bar based on the characters from the Indiana Jones film - and The Boathouse, which serves as a port for amphibious cars offers cruises of Lake Buena Vista.

The Landing was once the location of Fun Island, a nighttime entertainment district with two comedy clubs and four dance clubs. The area was permanently closed on September 27, 2008. On November 18, 2010, Disney announced a project called Hyperion Wharf, which is planned to replace the Fun Island complex. Pleasure Island will be undergoing a massive renovation and re-theming to transform into an entertainment area themed early 20th century. New shopping and eating locations will also be added. In July 2011, it was announced that the plan was postponed. The plan was later canceled because it was considered better to completely overhaul the Downtown Disney area. With the advent of Disney Springs, Pleasure Island was once redesigned as The Landing in 2015.

The Empress Lilly

The structure originally known as Empress Lilly is a full-size static replica of the steamboat boats in Village Lake. The length is 220 feet and 62 feet wide. Although it resembles a boat rowing boat, in fact this is a boat-shaped building on a submerged concrete foundation.

It was opened on May 1, 1976, when it was baptized by the widow of Walt Disney, Lillian Disney, for what his name was. It was originally housed in four separate entertainment and dining areas. In the mid-1990s, Restaurant Levy signed a contract to operate the "ship" for 20 years. On April 22, 1995, Empress Lilly closed. All the interior was torn and the old chimneys and paddewewheel were removed because they were rusty and weathered; this is not replaced. The restaurant opened as a Fulton Crab House on March 10, 1996. The Fulton Crab House is closed for major renovations in 2016 to be transformed into a new restaurant, Paddlefish. As part of the renovation, the exterior changed greatly, while retaining the original shape of the ship, and new chimneys and paddewewheels installed.

City Center

The City Center depicts the fictitious city's main business district, featuring Spanish Revival architecture from the 1920s. The City Center area also features the namesake "springs", which are artificial.

This area begins in 2016, built on secondhand parking lots, and features many famous retailers. This area will open in several phases, with the first phase opened on May 15, 2016. Retailers have opened in the first phase of the City Center including Antropologie, Sephora, L'Occitane en Provence, Pandora, UGG, Johnston & Murphy, ZARA and Kate Spade and Trophy Room among many others.

West Side

The West Side portrays the center of the city's exposition, which had been developed in the 1950s, according to the city's fictional history.

Expansion of existing venues AMC Theater Pleasure Island 24 opened with Downtown Disney West Side in 1997. At the end of 2010, renovations began that created cinemas offering food services. The complex was renamed AMC Downtown Disney 24 . In 1997, there was a plan to open Planet Film by AMC entertainment complex at this location by combining Planet Hollywood restaurant with a re-branded AMC megaplex. This plan was abandoned because of the ongoing financial problems of Planet Hollywood. This complex has now been renamed AMC Disney Springs 24 . DisneyQuest is located in this area until it closes on July 2, 2017 to make way for The NBA Experience.
