TD Bank, N.A. , is an American national bank and a subsidiary of Canadian multinational Toronto-Dominion Bank based in Toronto, Ontario. It operates primarily on the East Coast, in fifteen states and Washington, D.C. TD Bank is the eighth largest bank in the United States with total assets, resulting from many mergers and acquisitions.

Histori
This was a substitute for the Portland Savings Bank, which later became Banknorth. The bank takes its current name, TD Bank, N.A. , in 2008, through the acquisition and renaming of Commerce Bank and its merger with TD Banknorth. The initials "TD" of the bank, which was first popularized in Canada, is used officially for all American operations. In 2013, TD Bank, N.A. centralized its headquarters in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, USA.

Legal action and public controversy
data breach 2012
In October 2012, the Massachusetts attorney general announced that TD Bank incorrectly saved unencrypted backup records with "extensive customer information, including Social Security numbers and bank account numbers." At first the bank refused to state how many customers were affected. After the investigation by the attorney general, it declared 267,000 customers. Banks waited more than six months to notify customers.
TCPA class action lawsuit
In October 2015, a class action lawsuit was filed against TD Bank claiming that it violated the Consumer Protection Act of 1991. The lawsuit states that banks call consumers up to 10 times a day.
On July 3, 2017, all but 1 of those claims were revoked by Judge Jerome B. Simandle.
Coin-machine lawsuit
The bank was sued in 2016 on charges that their coin counting machine, "Penny Arcades," did not count the coins accurately. The lawsuit estimates that 26 cents of every $ 100 is not counted, for $ 9 million.
Block bitcoin
In October 2017, customers reported that TD Bank blocked the purchase of bitcoin credit cards. A bank representative said "the agency does not support Bitcoin, nor does it 'deal with the type of business'."
