Golden Age

Created by writer Gardner Fox and Dennis Neville artist, Shiera Sanders first appeared in Flash Comics (January 1940), in the same 12-page story where Fox and Neville introduced Hawkman. Archaeologist Carter Hall dreams that he is the ancient Egyptian prince, Khufu, who has a lover, named Shiera in the original story, or Princess Chay-Ara in modern retweet. The next day, Carter meets a woman named Shiera who looks exactly like the woman in her dream. Carter don identity Hawkman and Shiera became Carter's boyfriend. Shiera first appeared as Hawkgirl at All Star Comics # 5 (July 1941), in a costume made by Sheldon Moldoff, based on Hawkman Neville costume. During Hawkman's solo segment from the Justice Society of America story, Shiera don a set of Nth metal wing spears developed by Hawkman, and disguised as Hawkman to fool some criminals. Shiera continued to wear costumes and wings later on, eventually adopting Hawkgirl's identity.

Silver Age

With the fading superhero's popularity during the late 1940s, Hawkman's features ended in the latest edition of Flash Comics in 1949. In 1956, DC Comics evoked Flash by improving characters with new identities and backstory.. Following the success of the new Flash, DC Comics changed Hawkman in the same way as The Brave and the Bold 34 in 1961. The Silver Hawkman and Hawkgirl versions became the married alien police from the planet Thanagar who came to Earth to learn police techniques. Silver Age Hawkgirl is introduced as Shayera Hol (phonetically similar to Shiera Hall), which appears in costume as her first appearance. Although Silver Age Hawkman joined the Justice League in Justice League of America in 1964, Silver Age Hawkgirl was not offered a membership because the Justice League rules only allow one new member to be accepted at a time. A few years later, Silver Age Hawkgirl joined the Justice League of America with problem # 146 in 1977. In 1981, Silver Age Hawkgirl changed its name to Hawkwoman in Hawkman's reserve feature of World's Finest Comics # 274.

With the establishment of a DC multiverse system, the Golden Age Hawbirl is said to have lived on Earth-Two and the Silver Age Hawkgirl on Earth-One. Though Golden Age Hawkman made his first Silver Age appearance during the first JLA/JSA team in 1963 and continued to make appearances during the JLA/JSA annual team, Golden Age Hawkgirl did not reappear until 1976, in the revival of All Star Comics monthly comic. During the publication gap between Hawkman's cancellation at the end of the Golden Age and the Reintroduction of the Two-Hawkman Earth during the Silver Age, Golden Age Hawkman and Hawkgirl married outside the panel. Golden Age Hawkgirl makes a further appearance as the mother of Silver Scarab at Infinity Inc.'s comics. and as Hawkgirl as a member of the All-Star Squadron, a retroactive Golden Age hero team active in the 1940s.

Post-Crisis and One Year Later

Following the DC miniseries event, Crisis on Infinite Earths , Earth-One, Two, Four, S, and X history are combined into one Earth with a past, present, and a consistent future. As a result, both the Golden Age and Silver Age versions of Hawkman and Hawkgirl live on the same Earth. Shortly after Crisis on Infinite Earths DC, DC decided that having the same Earth Justice Society as all other superheroes is redundant and most teams, including Golden Age Hawkman and Hawkgirl, were abundant in the Last Day from the Justice Community one way. The Justice Society is trapped in another dimension, Limbo, where they will fight forever to prevent RagnarÃÆ'¶k happening on Earth.

Initially, Silver Age Hawkman and Hawkwoman remain in continuity unchanged after Crisis on Infinite Earths . However, DC reversed this decision and restarted Hawkman's continuation following the success of the Hawkworld miniseries. Initially, Hawkworld was a miniseries created in the past that revised Hawkman and Hawkwoman's origins, but after the series became a success, DC Comics made the current series Hawkworld series , with the two heroes recently appearing on Earth after the events in the Invasion! miniseries, resulting in a complete reboot of Hawkman's continuation. Some continuity errors concerning Hawkman and Hawkgirl Justice League appearances will then need to be fixed, including their appearance in the Invasion! miniseries. All previous appearances by Silver Age Hawkgirl in the Justice League are described by Golden Age Hawkgirl who took the place of Silver Age Hawkgirl. However, Hawkwoman continues to appear in several pre- Hawkworld Justice League adventures during which time the Golden Age Hawkgirl is trapped in Limbo. To explain this continuity error, a new Hawkwoman, Sharon Parker, was created and retconned to the Justice League at the Golden Age Hawkgirl in Limbo.

After Hawkworld reboots, Hawkgirl (Hawkwoman) is now Shayera Thal and does not marry Katar Hol, not just his police mate. In post-Hawkworld continuity, Shayera adopted the name Hawkwoman from the beginning of his costumed career and never used the name Hawkgirl. The Golden Age Hawkgirl finally returned from Limbo, but during the miniseries Zero Hour joined Katar Hol and the Golden Age Hawkman into a new persona.

Hawkgirl was recently introduced as part of the 1999 revival of JSA's monthly titles. The new Hawkgirl is Kendra Saunders, granddaughter of the Golden Age Hawkgirl cousin, Speed Saunders. Hawkgirl will continue to appear regularly in the monthly JSA and later in Hawkman every month. In 2006, the current Hawkman monthly series was titled Hawkgirl starting with edition # 50 as part of "One Year Later" to leap forward; Kendra replaces Hawkman as the main character. The comic book series Hawkgirl finished with edition # 66.

Kendra is a recurring member of Bird of Prey. Oracle first requested his help in # 104 in dealing with Secret Six, which Oracle rewarded him with cars. Throughout the Russian arc, Hawkgirl serves as a member of the team and develops competition with the Scandal of Secret Six members.

He was a member of the Justice League of America at the launch, but left the team because of the injuries he suffered in Final Crisis. The original Kendra and Hawkman (Carter Hall) were killed during the storyline Blackest Night ; Katar Hol had been killed earlier in the final battle with Hawkgod, and Carter Hall, who had been reincarnated in a new body, succeeded him as a partner of Hawkgirl. Carter and Shiera were resurrected after Blackest Night , but Kendra has been killed again.

Fictional character biography

Shiera Sanders Hall

The Golden Age Hawkgirl is Shiera Sanders Hall, the reincarnation of Egyptian princess Chay-Ara, and partner of Carter Hall, Golden Age Hawkman. Centuries ago, Chay-Ara and her lover Prince Khufu were killed by Hath-Set with a knife forged from metal Nth. The metallic properties and duo love power create bonds between them, causing them to be reborn several times over the centuries. Some of his incarnations are:

  • Lady Celia Penbrook, living during the 5th century in England, and likes Silent Knight
  • Cinnamon (also known as Kate Manser), an Old West gunslinger, and love Nighthawk
  • Sheila Carr, love Pinkerton detective lady James Wright

At the beginning of the 20th century, Chay-Ara was reborn as Shiera Sanders. He was abducted by Dr. Anton Hastor (reincarnation of Hath-Set), but later rescued by Hawkman (his beloved lover, Khufu). Shiera becomes an ally and love of heroes of the frequent heroes. Finally, he was given his own costumes and gravity-challenging Nth metal belts, and joined him by his side as Hawkgirl.

The Hawks are members of the All-Star Squadron, and while Hawkman is a member of the Justice Society of America, Hawkgirl does, it only helps the group occasionally. Following the DC miniseries event, , Shiera Hall joins JSA. Eventually, Carter and Shiera were married and had one son, Hector Hall, Doctor of Destiny before.

Through retcon, Carter and Shiera also joined the Justice League of America in the late 1980s, serving as a link between the group and the Justice Society.

Shiera died when he joined Carter and Katar Hol to form a new Hawkman version, a "eagle god" creature, during the Zero Hour event, but revived during the Blackest Night White Lantern.

Kendra Saunders

Kendra Saunders is a young woman who committed suicide. When Kendra's soul left her body, it was from the first cousin of her grandfather's Shiera Hall, Golden Age Hawkgirl entering into it, making Kendra a walk. His grandfather, former OSS agent and world-class adventurer, Speed Saunders admitted this, partly because of eye color changes, and encouraged his grandson to embrace his destiny as a "new" Hawkgirl.

Kendra has a daughter named Mia, who is not shown but mentioned.

Still believing himself to be Kendra, he debuted as a hero using the original Hawkgirl equipment and set out looking for a man called Fate-Child (in fact his own reincarnated son, Hector Hall). This led to a meeting with the Justice Society and Kendra induction to the team.

He currently has all the memories of Kendra, but almost nothing is saved Shiera for the fighting experience. This creates tension with Hawkman because he remembers all their past lives together and believes that they are destined for each other. Kendra has been shown as a very troubled young woman, haunted by her parents' murder by a corrupt cop and confused by her piles of memories and feelings. He has been operating as a partner of Hawkman but has recently begun to truly acknowledge his interest in him. The truth about Kendra's identity was finally revealed to him by Zauriel's angel.

He is one of the heroes who fought in space during the Rann-Thanagar War. After the Infinite Crisis incident, the damage of Zeta Beam transporter injured many superheroes in outer space, including Hawkgirl, causing him to grow more than twenty feet in height. Some time later, his stature recovered, Kendra is shown live in St. Petersburg. Roch, Louisiana, works at the Stonechat Museum and protects this town as Hawkgirl.

He is also a new member of the League of Justice, has effectively served with the team when previous original members were lost. The brewing relationship between Hawkgirl and Red Arrow became one of the main subplots in the series although it seems to have ended. Hawkgirl is now 100% Kendra Saunders. Shiera Sanders's soul left Kendra's body and moved to the afterlife. Shiera hopes that her pass will eventually remove the Hath-Set curse.

Hawkman Vol. 4 (2002-2006)

In the Hawkman series of ongoing comic books, Hawkgirl is shown as a very miserable young woman, seeking clarity about her parents' murder by corrupt police and confused by her piles of memories and feelings. He has all the memories of Kendra but almost nothing that Shiera has. This creates tension with Hawkman because he remembers all their past lives together and believes that they are destined for each other. He operated as a partner of Hawkman, but eventually began to really acknowledge his interest in him.

One of Kendra's past lives is revealed as a bounty hunter, Cinnamon, the reincarnation of Egyptian princess Chay-Ara. Thus, he became the reincarnated lover of Prince Khufu, Nighthawk's hero. When Cinnamon was attacked by the thief "Gentleman Jim" Craddock, Nighthawk hung it, so tied his fate with them. Cinnamon, along with Nighthawk, was killed by the latest incarnation of Hath-Set, their biggest enemy.

Kendra finally meets with Hawkwoman police officer, who is looking for her missing partner, Katar Hol, formerly owned by a creature known as the Hawk Avatar. Also attempting to capture Thanagarian's Thanagarian Criminal Thing Case, Shayera Thal asks for Kendra's help. Working with them is able to defeat criminals. Before leaving for Thanagar with Byth as his prisoner, Hawkwoman gives Hawkgirl his armor as a symbol of their newly formed friendship.

Hawkgirl felt that he was not the first person Hawkman would have faced in times of crisis, treating him as a girl in distress that could not contain himself, and lowered his position in the eyes of the American Justice Society and in partnership. He observes that he often treats him as a friend, a relationship that Kendra rejects, wants to be seen as equality. Towards the end of the series Hawkgirl reveals all his feelings to Carter, causing him to apologize and acknowledge that he treated her wrongly over the years. The story finishes on a romantic note with the Hawks fighting together during Rann-Thanagar War .

Hawkgirl, series

The ongoing monthly series of Hawkman is the title for Hawkgirl, with Kendra replacing Carter as the main character. Hawkgirl looks to protect St. Roch, Louisiana in the absence of Hawkman, and worked at the Stonechat Museum. He fought Khimaera several times, eventually killing him. He was later kidnapped and tried in a mock court for high treason against his people by a group of mischievous Thanagarian villains, at the instigation of Blackfire. After declaring his mistake, one of the thieves tied his hands behind his back, covered his mouth with tape, and tried to execute it by hanging - where Kendra found that he could float without wings, and thus be able to fake his death and defeat the criminals. Kendra then became a direct target of Blackfire who decided to go to Earth, himself, to kill Hawkgirl and Hawkman. Together, the Hawks defeated him and took his power.

Kendra then fought alongside the Furies of Darkseid when St. Roch was attacked by the evil weavers of Apokolips, a stolen Beta-3 Gizmoid. It turned out that the gizmoid was associated with the old Hawks enemy, Hath-Set, as it had brought to Earth centuries ago and landed in Ancient Egypt during the reign of Hath-Set, and hidden in canopic jar.

Due to Hath-Set's attempt to retrieve the jar, the gizmoid was reactivated near the Stonechat Museum. According to his program, he sees Hawkgirl and, choosing him as a template, takes his form to start Earth eradication. Tracing it, Furies Woman arrives with Boom Tube but is given conscious.

As a giant mechanical version of Hawkgirl, the gizmoid starts attacking St Roch with his weaponry weaponry. Bernadeth and other Furies tried to destroy the gizmoid but to no avail. But, because of his short connection to the gizmoid, Hawkgirl finds a weakness in which he and Furies are able to defeat him.

The Hawkgirl plan succeeded and the gizmoid fell to pieces, but after that, Bloody Mary vampires, one of the Furies, lit Hawkgirl as he lay unconscious. Fortunately, Danny Evans has followed the battle and emerged in due course. He managed to delay Bloody Mary just long enough for Hawkgirl to wake up and subdue him. The Female Furies collect Bloody Mary and refuse to thank Hawkgirl for her business before leaving.

Kendra finally decides to fight with her arch-rival, Hath-Set, who has been spying on her for some time. Hawkgirl is getting closer to finding it with the help of Batman, Superman, and Oracle. During his search, Kendra was kidnapped by Hath-Set and taken to Egypt. Hawkman followed the rescue mission, but was arrested and imprisoned by Hath-Set's henchmen. While Hawkgirl can free himself. He meets Hath-Set, and after the final battle, kill him and save Hawkman. Both eventually find peace, break the cycle of reincarnation and failure. They can see themselves falling in love again, but with Hawkgirl insisting that, this time, Carter should get his love.

American Justice League

Hawkgirl's main story in the early edition of Justice League of America Vol. 2 centered around his relationship with Red Arrow. Initially both are looking for throws, but then find themselves in love, with Hawkgirl even meeting his daughter Lian, the result of his romance with Cheshire.

Their relationship became one of the main subplots of the series, with Black Canary's disapproval of the relationship bringing some tension to it. In addition, Power Girl suggests Red Arrow not to get involved with Hawkgirl, as he is destined to eventually return to Hawkman (Carter Hall). Regardless of everything, the two began dating, with the League of Justice then finding out after the Red Tornado caught Hawkgirl and Red Arrow sleeping together.

This is the beginning of a turbulent relationship, with past relationships, parenting, and inability to express their feelings for each other causing problems. Red Arrow's constant pain due to Cheshire's absence, and Hawkgirl's conflicting feelings about Hawkman bring stress in their romance, causing the couple to fight regularly. Eventually the relationship broke up and the Red Arrow left the Justice League.

While on a mission with the Justice League within Prison Planet, Hawkgirl discovers another ability provided by Nth Metal, the power to weaken the forces drawn from the space-time structure. Thus, Kendra is the only member not affected by Kanjar Ro, allowing him to fight the villain and save his friends. Hawkgirl then left the Justice League because of the injuries he suffered in Final Crisis.

Blackest Night

In Blackest Night # 1, Kendra is shown to have an argument with Hawkman about whether or not to visit Jean Loring's grave with Atom. When the two heroes quarreled, the corpses of Ralph and Sue Dibny, now a member of the Lantern Black Corps, entered the Hawkman sanctuary. The Black Lanterns attack, Sue deviates Hawkgirl with a spear. Ralph taunted Hawkman, telling him that Hawkgirl never loved him; claims he argued with his last breath. Hawkman was killed shortly after, and the two heroes were revived as Black Lanterns by Black Hand himself.

During the battle on Coast City, Atom was selected by the Indigo Tribe to become more effective against Nekron's forces. Atom tells Indigo-1 to keep his involvement in spreading secret troops, and asks him to help him find ways to legitimately raise Hawkman and Hawkgirl. In the final battle, the duo was transformed by Hal Jordan into the White Lantern Corps and after the destruction of Nekron, they were both resurrected. Hawkgirl says he remembers all his past lives, then unmasked to reveal himself as Shiera, he and Carter united with joy.

Light Day

In the Brightest Day crossover, Carter and Shiera followed Hath-Set, who had collected bones from all their past bodies, and created from them a portal to Hawkworld. While there, Shiera was told by Entitas to stop Hath-Set from killing Carter because if he died once again, he would not undergo a resurgence cycle anymore. Shiera was attacked in the Hawkworld dungeon and was captured by Hath-Set. He was then taken to the Queen of Hawkworld, who revealed to Shiera that he was his mother. Hawkgirl is bound by Hath-Set and Queen Khea to the gateway, and they attack her to lure Hawkman to the location. Hawkman and his panther group attack homeworld Manhawks. When Hawkman arrived and caught his attention, Shiera flipped the table at Hath-Set and used his legs to break his neck, killing him. Meanwhile, Hawkman is held by Queen Khea's control of the mace and metal armor of Nth, and she places Carter with Shiera. Queen Khea opens the gate and enters the portal to Zamon's homeworld. When he arrived at Zamaron's homeworld, Star Sapphire (Carol Ferris) freed them both to stop the invasion of Queen Khea. Hawkgirl soon faces his mother, but the Predator feels the lack of love in Khea's heart with him and does not know if he really is able to withstand the power of true love.

Predator made Khea as his host, but Shiera and Carter managed to separate them by stabbing Khea at the same time as a weapon made of Zamaronia crystals. The bones of past life Hawkman and Hawkgirl were separated from the gates and, driven by the power of violet light of love, took Khea and imprisoned him at Zamaronian Central Power Battery. Shiera and Carter, with both of their missions completed, their life back and Carol teleports both back to the museum St. Roch. There, couples, happy because they finally beat the curse, began to drop their clothes to make love, but they were suddenly disturbed by Deadman's appearance, taken there by his white ring. The ring gave Shiera and Carter an order that they should live separately to live a stronger life (as they are more appreciative of love than life itself), but when Carter answers saying they will not live apart again, the ring answers, "It's okay" and let go of a white light blaze that makes Hawkman and Hawkgirl white as dust, while Deadman looks horrified. Deadman ordered the ring to raise Hawkman and Hawkgirl, but the ring refused, and told him that Hawkgirl was unique and that he was brought back alive to deal with what kept him in his past life because he was very important in saving the Earth.

When "Dark Avatar" makes its presence known, Hawkgirl and Hawkman are revealed to be part of the Elementals. They are transformed by Entities to become an air element and protect Star City forest from Dark Avatar, which appears to be a Black Lantern version of Swamp Thing. The Elementals are then combined with Alec Holland's body so that he can be transformed by the Entity into the new Swamp Thing and fight against the Dark Avatar. After the Dark Avatar is defeated, Swamp Thing seems to have brought Elementals back to normal; However, when Hawkman searches for Shiera, he discovers that he is not brought back like himself. He is then told by Swamp Thing that Shiera is everywhere, revealing that he is still an air element. After that, Hawkman returns home shouting "Shiera".

What's New 52

After this, a version of Kendra Saunders has been redeveloped from Hawkgirl's feature in Earth 2 comic book , which is set in the parallel reality of the appointment. Its full origins have not been revealed apart from some of his innuendo background as part of a secret program that includes Al Pratt. Hawkgirl then visits the apartment of Alan Scott who is still mourning over the death of his partner, Sam. Hawkgirl's detective skills enabled him to know that Alan and Green Lantern were one and the same. He tries to convince him to join him and Flash to form a team against the dangers that come. Since then, Hawkgirl with Flash, Green Lantern and Doctor Fate formed the Wonders of the World.

During the events of the Destination Tower Hawkgirl looks New Orleans trying to get Khalid to join him in an effort to fight the war with Apokolips. They flew over Chinese ports when Kendra noted that they had reached the point where there should be clues, because one container contained something connected to Sam's death. However once they open the container, Alan and Kendra find their surprise, many dead Parademon are stacked on top of each other. Surprised by their findings and wondering how this got Sam killed, they decided to retreat to their previous source, mafia leader Eddie Kai.

While Alan refuses as much as he can, command power proves too unbearable and he is forced to leave Kendra despite his protests, when he leaves but he asks Kendra to keep looking in his place. Still helping Alan with his problem, Hawkgirl looks at the grave looking for answers, where he is attacked by a genetically enriched Apokorats ridden by Apokolips soldiers, Batman helps him and tells him to look for Kanto, Apokolips's killer. He discovered that Alan's dead husband, mixed with Apokolips battle technology.

When the second invasion of Apokolips on Earth-2 took place, the Wonders of the World, trying to save the Earth-2 from destruction, to no avail, they had to flee to the Twin Earth, only two million survived the war. One of the thieves explained that they had seen the future, and that their universe would not survive. Hawkman and Hawkgirl watched their world begin to crumble because of the Crisis, but they also realized that there might be a new beginning and they fly with hope in their hearts.

DC Rebirth

In March 2016, DC Comics developed DC Rebirth, as a re-launch of the entire monthly line of ongoing superhero comic books. Using the end of the New 52 initiative in May 2016 as its launch point, DC Rebirth restored the DC Universe to such a form before the "Flashpoint" storyline while still incorporating many of The New 52 elements, including its continuity.

After this, Hawkgirl, as Shiera Hall, made his first appearance at Dark Days: The Forge and Dark Days: The Casting , which served as the beginning for Dark Night: Metal .

Hawkgirl was featured in the first decade of the 20th century, where he was an archaeologist with her husband, Hawkman, at St. Roch. It reveals that Hawkgirl's first reincarnation was a generation earlier than Ancient Egypt, he was present during prehistory. Shiera acts as the leader of the Tribe of Birds, who fought against the darkness of the evil god Barbatos. As the Egyptian princess, Chay-Ara, she found the Thanagarian spacecraft crashed which is filled with Nth Metal. The Nth Metal Chay-Ara found on board gave him, Khufu, and their mortal enemies Hath-Set eternal life, defending them into their eternal reincarnation cycle. Thanks to this, Carter and Shiera decided to become the heroes who fought together as Hawkman and Hawkgirl, with the power given to them thanks to the exposure of Nth Metal.

Kendra Saunders made his debut DC Rebirth at Dark Nights: Metal # 1, he is now the current Blackhawks leader, an anti apocalyptic team. Looking to prevent the Dark Knights invasion on Earth, Hawkgirl warned the Justice League about the upcoming Dark Multiverse invasion and then worked with the League to help them defeat the Dark Knight. He worked with Wonder Woman and Doctor Fate and traveled with them to Rock of Eternity looking for Nth Metal - the only weapon capable of injuring Barbatos, an ancient villain from Dark Multiverse. Hawkgirl is also a member of Immortal Men, a group of the oldest creatures on Earth. Thus, he was entrusted by God with the mission of using the astral Anti-Monitor brain in Rock of Eternity to destroy the Dark Knight. However, when she tries to do so, she is distracted by Barbatos who transforms herself into a dark-hawk version of her called Lady Blackhawk.

Hawkgirl regained control over his body after Wonder Woman used Lasso of Truth on him, restoring Kendra's memories. After discovering the Metal Nth Hawkman mage, Wonder Woman and Hawkgirl traveled through the portal to Earth, where they eventually fought with various corrupt versions of the Justice League. During their battles, Hawkgirl met Hawkman possessed by the dark Barbatos . He was able to release him from a criminal order after encouraging Carter to remember all their past lives together. After helping to defeat Barbatos and Dark Knights , Hawkgirl was recruited to join the new Justice League.

Recently, it was announced a new monthly series of Hawkman solos, written by Robert Venditti and illustrated by Bryan Hitch, this series will explore Hawkgirl and Hawkman relationships after the Dark Nights: Metal event. Hawkgirl will also be a member of the relaunched Justice League two weekly series, written by Scott Snyder.

Strength and ability

Hawkgirl owes its strength to the metal belt of Nth, the native substance of Thanagar planet (once the home of a pair of Hawk heroes, Katar Hol and Hawkwoman). The metal is psycho-reactive, responds to the carrier's mind and in its basic form has a number of electromagnetic/gravity properties. For the Hawks, it provides fly strength, superpower, super-acute vision, and enhanced healing/regeneration abilities.

In addition, it features sophisticated hand-to-hand fighting skills. Like Hawkman, he retains the knowledge of some lives worth fighting for. His weapon of choice is a spear or a mace, but he is also depicted using swords, axes, warhammers, shields, and other melee weapons. He has shooting skills from his time as a shooter, Cinnamon.

In addition, the Nth metal knife that killed Hawkgirl in his original incarnation as Chay-Ara had an unusual effect on his soul and his lover Khufu (Hawkman). The couple is locked in a seemingly endless cycle of death and rebirth throughout the century. Though not a superhuman strength, this inclination for reincarnation has enabled Hawkgirl to deceive death and return to active duty in his current incarnation.

Like all modern Thanagarians, Shayera Hol has a pair of wings that grow from his back that allow him to fly. As a Thanagarian, he has tremendous physical strength, endurance and endurance. As a former member of the Thanagarian military, he has extensive training in tactics, military science, and personal combat skills. In addition, his focus in espionage can make him a difficult opponent to track, and give him an advantage when tracking down criminals.

Hawkgirl brings a mace made of metal Nth, which can generate electric current and dissipate magical energy, his mace is very effective against magic, as shown when Hawkgirl defeats Doctor Fate, a powerful magician of the DC Universe. Hawkgirl is skilled in holding and throwing the mace accurately. He creatively uses the mace as a shield to deflect incoming projectiles as well as emergency defibrillator units.

Hawkgirl is fluent in many languages of the Earth, through the use of Absorbascon. Her unique Thanagarian physiology also enables her to communicate verbally with birds.

Nth Metals also regulates the wearer's temperature, preventing the need for heavy protective clothing while at altitudes. It also has heat-radiating properties, which can be controlled to warm the wearer in cold climates.

Recently, Kendra has found that it has improved healing ability, strength, vision, and limitations when not using metal. He speculates that this is because he is too long exposed to the substance. It remains to be seen whether he still has this ability now that he is Shiera Hall once again.

Hawkgirl looks next to wait for Superman and Shazam in Utah in the Great Salt desert, a mace ready when he answers Shazam's questions about what the Man of Steel says they face by replying, "He thinks we're dealing with Green Lanterns." When Superman asked how he knew, he told him that he was talking to their 'guest' in the Hall of Justice. When he saw Superman staring up at the sky, he asked how many Lanterns were on the road, with Superman replying, "Too much." After Green Lanterns arrived in front of them and Superman and Kilowog had a short conversation, Shiera wanted to know where Hal Jordan was, and when Kilowog did not respond, Superman had fired a Cyborg ray on Green Lanterns from the Watchtower. The Green Lanterns survived and involved the three, with Hawkgirl against the Green Lanterns Isamot Kol and RRU-9-2, when he saw Superman suddenly descend, calling his name. Legend of the Hawkman

Hawkgirl (Haw Shayera) and Hawkman's feature in this mini series were set shortly after their arrival on Earth as the duo faced an ancient threat with connections to their heritage in Thanagarian. In the first chapter, "The Fallen One" , Shayera is keen to return to Thanagar, but Katar feels responsible for the museum, especially the upcoming extraterrestrial treasure fairs. Although Katar has adopted Earth as her home, Shayera does not feel like being there. In Tibet a group of archaeologists found Thanagarian gates carved on the cliff side, having been told about Hawkgirl and Hawkman traveling to the site.

Hawkman describes the writing on the gate and it describes the life of Thasaro, a son of Thanagarian so evil that he threatened the existence of the ancient gods of Thanagar. The ancient god Aerie cursed Thasaro into a mystical jar. The Shayera ancestors were entrusted with burying jars so no one could release Thasaro. Hawkman and Shayera fighting until Shayera flies in a sad heart because Katar cares more about archeology than her feelings. Katar's fingerprints genetically open the gate. Shayera heard the explosion and returned to the site. Thasaro appears and keeps the stone guard all over his room come alive. The guards attacked Hawkgirl but he managed to defeat his enforcers and find Katar in the grip of Thasaro. Thasaro then summoned a corpse like a claw that emerges from the ground and pulls Hawkgirl into the cave beneath Thasaro's room. The talons maim Hawkgirl, but he managed to escape. Shayera's discomfort in the cave evoked the spirit of his ancestors. Shayera's ancestors channeled his aura to Shayera and gave him the edge he needed to conquer Thasaro. Thasaro is thrown once more into the jar. The jar is then transported to the Midway City Museum so that Katar and Shayera can take care of it. Three months later Shayera was shown wanting to start a family, while the Thanagarian fanatics returned to Earth to free the cruel fallen god. The return of Thasaro brings chaos and destruction to Midway City, but using their Nth Metal weapons Hawkgirl and Hawkman are able to damp it, throwing it into the depths of a fiery Hell of the Earth.

Super Friends

Hawkgirl has appeared in several episodes of All-New Super Friends Hour and Super Friends paired with her husband Hawkman. In her appearance on the show, she looks like a Silver Age Character version. However, in his last appearance during the "lost season", Hawkgirl got a new costume (a completely black mask, a yellow piece with a red belt, and gray shoes) and his hair turned into a blonde. He is voiced by Shannon Farnon and Janet Waldo.

Justice League and Justice League Unlimited

Hawkgirl appears in the animated series Justice League and Justice League Unlimited, voiced by Maria Canals-Barrera. He is based on Shayera Hol, Silver Age version of the character. His personality was completely redesigned for the series by the producers, who wanted a second female superhero for the team to contrast with Wonder Woman. While the Black Canary is traditionally more associated with the Justice League, the producers would rather have the Hawk family represented. In the continuity of animation, Hawkgirl's wings are organic and he uses the Nth thieving metal that interferes with magical powers and other forms of energy; he is also described as having superhuman strength, endurance, endurance and is an expert hand-to-hand battle, "In Blackest Night Part.II" when he defeated four Green Lantern Corps members alone. It can be assumed that he also has the ability to hover, because sometimes he looks suspended in the air without using his visible wings. In the episode "Just Dream Pt. 1" he is seen floating with Copperhead clinging to his back.

In "The Secret of Origin", Mars Manhunter gathers the future League to fight against an alien invasion on Earth. After the invasion's defeat, the seventh remain the team and formally form the League of Justice, dedicated to the defense of the Earth against attacks both inside and outside. To the rest of the League, Shayera is a mysterious woman with angel wings from another world. He explains that he found himself on Earth when, while chasing some criminals who trafficked illicit technology, he was accidentally transported by rays from a dimensional transporter known to his people as Zeta Beam, traditionally associated with DC science fiction hero Adam Strange.

Throughout the series, he slowly builds a relationship with Green Lantern (John Stewart). In a two-part episode of "Wild Cards", John was nearly killed by a bomb that the Joker had set out while protecting Shayera. He almost managed to bring him back to life by shocking him with his wand, then left the city to take care of him. Later, in the Watchtower, John and Shayera show their true feelings for each other, and Shayera allows John to remove his mask, giving first view to the viewers on Hawkgirl's face under the mask, and the two share a kiss.

In the second season finale of "Starcrossed", Shayera reveals himself as a military officer of the planet's armed forces, working as a talent scout on earth. When his people suddenly came into effect on Earth, he worked to help the Thanagari people gain the support of the Earth's leaders to protect him from the mortal enemies of the Thanagarias, the Gordani. He also reunited with the commander and his fiancé Hro Talak (anagram for the Silver Age of Hawkman Katar Hol), with his two spy missions now revealed and this unspecified romance created considerable friction between him and John. The information he gave to the Thanagarians allowed them to take League prisoners, although Shayera said they should not be killed. They then run away.

Unbeknownst to Shayera, Thanagarian's real intent is to turn the Earth into the final link in a hyperspace shortcut, which will destroy the Earth but allow Thanagari people to strike a deadly blow in Gordanian's home world. When Shayera learned of this plan, he betrayed his people and told the League of Justice about the Thanagarian plot, proving this by restoring John's ring that had been taken by the Thanagari people. Thanagarian forces were eventually defeated by the League and forced to leave Earth, with Shayera abandoned as a traitor. (For this reason, Shayera is then ambushed by a group of insurgent Thanagarian resistance fighters seeking revenge on "Hunter's Moon".) Six other members of the League take a vote on whether to allow Shayera to remain on the team but before they can tell him the result , he resigned from the League and departed (in "Wake the Dead", he revealed that the decision, when split up, supports letting him stay, with John abstaining and Superman breaking the tie). He eventually comes to live with Doctor Takdir and his wife Inza in the fortress of the Fate tower in an attempt to decide what to do with his life.

In the episode "Wake the Dead", Solomon Grundy's body was re-organized, and he made a mess. Shayera took responsibility for killing Grundy, whom he once considered a friend. After this, he returns to the League, but some time before he is well received among his members, especially Wonder Woman and Batman (who are both likely to have previously opted against him remaining on the team). After being allowed to rejoin the Justice League, Shayera reclaimed his position among the seven founding members and chose to wear simple civilian clothes compared to the more militaristic previous costumes.

After returning to the League of Justice, Shayera finds conflict with Wonder Woman, Amazon warriors reluctantly allow Shayera to join the team again, but holds a grudge against him. He will retain that feeling until the episode "The Balance", when he is forced to bring Shayera to Themyscira and Tartarus because of Felix Faust's return and seize the throne of Hades, Shayera is very important for this mission because his N-Mace Metal is the only weapon who was able to stop Faust. During this mission, Shayera and Wonder Woman resolve their differences once and for all. Shayera is still in conflict with Vixen. Once, they, during the episode "Hunter's Moon", along with Vigilante, were assigned to rescue missions in the distant months where foreign miners were having problems due to the high levels of Nth's unstable metal. However, it turns out it was a trap made by Paran Dul, who led a group of Thanagarian soldiers including a mentally handicapped Kriwa. During their confrontation on the moon, Paran reveals that Shayera's betrayal has led to Thanagar's defeat by Gordanians and that Hro T
