The Golden Joystick Awards , also known as the People's Gaming Awards , is a video game award ceremony; it was the best video game award of the year, as it was voted by the British public, but can now be selected by anyone online. By 2016, the ceremony has entered its 34th year. This is the second oldest video game award ceremony after the Arcade Awards.
The awards initially focused on computer games, but later expanded to include game consoles as well, due to the success of video game consoles such as Sega Master System and Sega Mega Drive in the UK. The ceremony is not related to a prize awarded to a successful contestant at GamesMaster , a British television show.
By 2014, this is the biggest video game award event in terms of the number of votes cast; more than nine million votes were awarded for the ceremony of 2014. The 35th annual award ceremony took place on November 17, 2017 in London.
