Chase Jarvis is an American photographer, director, artist, and entrepreneur. Since April 2014, Jarvis has been CreativeLive's chief executive officer, the online education platform he founded in 2010.

Kehidupan awal

Jarvis was born in Seattle, Washington. His father was a Seattle Police Department officer, and his mother was an administrator at a biotech company. He studied at San Diego State University on a soccer scholarship, receiving a BA in philosophy with a difference.

Initially, Jarvis plans to enter medical school after graduating from university. A few weeks before graduation, Jarvis's grandfather died and left all his photographic equipment to his grandson. Jarvis then continued his post-college journey through Europe and found a passion for photography. He is self-taught, after learning photography through experiments and self-study. Photography

In 1994, Jarvis moved to Steamboat Springs, Colorado with his girlfriend, where he began photographing snowboarder and pro skier photographs. Jarvis licensed his first picture for $ 500 and a pair of ski boots. Jarvis continues to pursue photography while studying Philosophy and Art in the University of Washington MA/PhD program. One year before finishing his Master's degree, Jarvis licensed his photograph to REI that allowed him to leave the academy and open his own studio, Chase Jarvis, Inc.

Since opening his own studio, Jarvis photographed for Volvo, Nike, Apple, Microsoft, General Motors, Google, Samsung, Hewlett-Packard, Columbia Sportswear, REI, Honda, Subaru, Target, Pepsi, McDonald's and Red Bull. He is known for his kinetic style and his emphasis on lifestyle photos, sports, and photographs of scenes and photographs from anywhere from $ 50 to $ 50,000. In 2007, Chase Jarvis filed a lawsuit against K2 Sports for copyright infringement and won.

Jarvis has received support from Polaroid (in conjunction with Lady Gaga) and Nikon. He helped launch the first digital video SLR camera, Nikon D90, in 2008. Two years later, Jarvis helped launch the Nikon D7000.

On May 11, 2011 Jarvis posted Dasein: Invitations to Hang at the Ace Hotel lobby in New York City, where he is an artist in residence. Over 10,000 works from around the world are part of Jarvis art installations.

Awards and acknowledgments

Jarvis is the youngest person to be named Hasselblad Master, Nikon Master, and ASMP Master. In 2008, the Kung Fu HD Jarvis series received first place in the Special Effects category at the International Photography Awards. The Best Camera Applications also won the Adorama Photography Award at the APPOS Awards. Jarvis also received awards from Prix de la Photographie de Paris, the American Advertising Photographer, and Photo District News for his work.

Jarvis contributed to the New York Times story of Snow Fall, which won the Pulitzer Prize for feature writing in 2013.

In 2014, Jarvis is recognized as one of the most influential photographers by Huffington Post. In the same year, he received an Emmy nomination for his documentary film Portrait of a City.

Books

Jarvis publishes his first book, Best Camera: That's The One With You , in 2009. This book celebrates pictures taken with cameras on mobile phones, especially iPhone, and Jarvis releases an iPhone app called Best Camera in conjunction with the book.

In 2010, Jarvis released his second book, Seattle 100 , which is a collection of black and white portraits and biographies of the people who define Seattle culture. The proceeds from the book were donated to charity, and this book later became the basis for the documentary that the Emmy nominated.

Best Camera

In 2009, Jarvis released an iPhone image editing app called Best Camera. With Best Camera, users can apply 14 different filters for images captured with their iPhone and then share the images directly with Facebook, Twitter and TheBestCamera.com. The Best Camera app is credited with "setting trends" in smartphone photography by The Times of India and named with Wired 20 Mouse iPhone Applications 2009, Macworld ' s Best Photo App, and one of Apple's favorite app executive Philip W. Schiller. In addition, Jarvis publishes a companion book, called Best Camera Is One That's With You , featuring photos taken with his iPhone.

CreativeLive

Jarvis founded CreativeLive, an online education platform that offers free online classes in various fields, in 2010. Since its inception, CreativeLive has become the largest live-streaming education company in the world.

As founder, Jarvis lifted Series A round of $ 7.5 million and Series B rounds of $ 21.5 million. On April 14, 2014, it was announced that Jarvis would become CEO of CreativeLive, taking over for the previous CEO Mika Salmi. Speaking of CreativeLive in March 2015, Jarvis told the New York Times, "What we're trying to do is create the most vibrant learning experience we can do."

In June 2011 Jarvis and his team broadcast the first episode of Chase Jarvis Live via Ustream. The purpose of this series is to broadcast interviews and do Q & amp; Like professionals, the audience may be useful, like other professional photographers, art directors and writers. The interview was first broadcast live via Ustream and then uploaded to YouTube. Jarvis has interviewed dozens of industry leaders including the likes of BrenÃÆ'Â © Brown, Jared Leto, Tim Ferriss, Macklemore & amp; Ryan Lewis, Adrian Grenier, Gary Vaynerchuk, and Guy Kawasaki.

Jarvis is the keynote speaker, and has addressed conferences including Virgin Disruptors, TEDxCMU, PDN Photo Plus Expo, Photokina, and Sundance Film Festival. He is also an angel investor; in 2011, he invested in Trippy, a social travel website. Jarvis also invested in two Seattle restaurants, mkt. (pronounced "market") and Tallulah's.

In 2013, Jarvis was a mentor for the Shopify Build a Business program.

Philanthropy

Jarvis has helped raise money for Free Arts NYC, an organization that provides art programs for children. He is also an honorary council member for Pacific Photocenter NW, council adviser at Blue Earth, and ambassador for One Percent for the Planet.
