The Icee Company is an American beverage company located in Ontario, California, United States. Its flagship product is Icee (styled as ICEE ), which is a frozen sparkling drink available in fruit and soda flavor. Icee also produces other frozen drinks and Italian ice appears under the brands Icee and Slush Puppie. The company's mascot is an animated polar bear.
The Icee Company was founded by Omar Knedlik who was the inventor of the original Icee drink. This became the basis for Slurpee and other frozen beverage drinks after several machines made by the company were bought by 7-Eleven in 1965. It has been a division of J & J Snack Foods Corporation since 1988 and distributes products in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Guatemala, China, and the Middle East.

History
Icee was created in 1958 by Omar Knedlik, owner of Dairy Queen in Coffeyville, Kansas. The drink was the wrong product in Knedlik's Dairy Queen. The soda machine broke and he started putting a bottle of soda in the freezer to keep him cool. Knedlik began selling bottles of soda that would instantly turn into mud once opened. Frozen soda became popular among the company's customers.
Icee's name and original company logo were developed by Ruth E. Taylor, a local artist and friend of Knedlik. He developed the name "Icee", as well as the idea of ââa logo ice hanging from the letter beam, which remains unchanged. He thought of the Polar Bear, but the real bear mascot had been made by the Norsworthy-Mercer advertising agency. The word "Icee" with snow on it was designed by Mitchell Company's staff artist, Lonnie Williams, as part of the cup she designed.
Knedlik partnered with John E Mitchell Company in Dallas to develop a machine, which Knedlik received a patent in 1960. The first machine was made from a car air conditioning unit. It works by combining and freezing water, carbon dioxide, and flavor mixtures. After 5 years, the Knedlik idea became an Icee Machine icon after attracting 7-Eleven attention. The supermarket chain buys multiple machines and then changes its name to Slurpee based on the slurping sounds that people do when drinking.
The Mitchell Company instituted a two-tiered franchise plan involving "Developer" and "Sub-Developer". In essence, Developer and Developer Development both pay fees and rentals for the right to use certain numbers of Ice Dispensers and for rights in exclusive territories to distribute machines and to promote Ese drink sales. By the mid-1960s, 300 Icee machines had been produced.
