Histori
The line begins as a disaster response. In March 2011, the T earthquake? Hoku destroys Japan's telecommunications infrastructure nationally, requiring employees at NHN Japan, a unit of the NHN Company of South Korea, to rely on Internet-based resources to communicate. Company engineers developed Line to facilitate this, and the company released their application for general use in June.
This application proved very popular, and by the end of October, Line had an unexpected server overload. Having concluded that the scalability process needs to be improved, NHN Japan chose to adopt HBase as the primary storage for user profiles, contacts, and groups. Within eighteen months since its launch, Line reached 100 million users; six months later, reaching 200 million and on 25 November 2013, used by 300 million users.
On July 3, 2012, NHN Japan announced the new Line features Home and Timeline . The feature allows users to share the latest personal developments into the contact community in real time, similar to status updates in social networking services like Facebook.
On February 6, 2013, Line success led the NHN Japan announced a new spin-off company called Line Corporation that continues to develop Internet resources such as Line, Japan's Naver search portal, and Livedoor ISP and blog platform. The games, including for the Line Game brand, remain under the auspices of the Japanese Hangame. A new joint venture called Line Plus Corporation develops overseas markets. At launch, most of Line Plus's shares are held by the newly created Line Corporation (60%) with the remaining shares (40%) held by Korea's parent company NHN Corporation.

In June 2016, Japan claimed 68 million users while Thailand has 33 million. In February 2014, Indonesia had 20 million users, Taiwan 17 million, while India and Spain each had 16 million. The NHN company representative announced plans to reach 300 million with further expansion in East Asia, Spain and Chile. In April 2014, Naver announced that Line has reached 400 million users worldwide. By December 2017 Line reached 217 million average number of users in a month.

Limitations
Channel accounts can be accessed on just one mobile device (running app version), plus one personal computer (running version for them). Additional mobile devices can install apps but require different phone numbers or e-mail addresses for Channel accounts.
If "LINE Lite" for Android is installed and enabled, users are notified that they will "quit the regular LINE". This message does not specify that is unlikely to reenter normal LINE, and normal LINE will delete all history data ââb> when the next launch.
Security
In August 2013, it is possible to intercept Line chat sessions at the network level using packet capture software and to reconstruct on the PC. Messages are sent in clear text to the Line server when on mobile data but encrypted when using Wi-Fi most of the time.
Until February 2016, it is also possible to "duplicate" the iPhone from backup, and then use the iPhone "cloning" to access the same Line account as used by the original iPhone. This gap is widely rumored (but never proven) has been used to intercept Message Line between the popular Japanese television personality Becky and her married romantic partner Enon Kawatani; taped messages were published in Shukan Bunshun magazine and led to a temporary suspension of Becky's television career.
In July 2016, Line Company enabled end-to-end encryption by default for all Line users. Previously available as an opt-in feature since October 2015. This app uses the ECDH protocol for client-to-client encryption. In August 2016, Line expanded its end-to-end encryption to also include group chats, voice calls, and video calls.
Sensor
In China, Lines press content to fit government censorship. Analysis by Citizen Lab shows that accounts registered with Chinese phone numbers download a list of forbidden words that can not be sent or received through the Channel. Banned words reflect common topics banned by Chinese officials, such as the Tiananmen Square protests of 1989 and controversies over Tibet and Xinjiang.
The line publicly confirms the practice in December 2013:
LINE must adapt to local regulations during its expansion into mainland China, and as a result the Chinese version of LINE, "LIANWO," was developed. The details of this system are kept secret, and there is no plan to release them publicly.
In Indonesia, Line has responded to pressure from the Indonesian Ministry of Communications and Information to remove emoji and stickers that it believes to refer to homosexuality, such as emoji "two men holding hands". Line issued a public statement on the matter: "The line regrets the incident of some stickers that are considered sensitive by many people, we ask for your understanding because we are currently working on this issue to remove stickers".
