The Eastern Michigan University Student Center is a student union of Eastern Michigan University. Since it opened in 2006, the EMU Student Center replaces Union McKenny as a student life center campus. The building is simply referred to as the "Student Center" by faculty and staff students. In 2017, the Student Center was named the nation's number one union by College Rank. The building is located at University Park near Rec/IM and Library. It is also the location of the EMU Book Store, 24/7 computer lab, two art galleries, various offices and Reception. Student Center also includes Kiva Room.

History
The first University of Michigan University Student Union was McKenny Union, first proposed by President Charles McKenny in 1924. Union McKenny opened in 1931, and was the first student union on college college teachers. In early 2000, the EMU began to see the possibility of expansion and renovation of the Union of McKenny. The university found that building a new student center and renovating McKenny would be cheaper. The Burt Hill Company was hired to design a new building with Turner Construction as a builder, and in 2004, work began at the former Pine Grove Apartments site and tennis courts. The building was officially opened on November 17, 2006. Since it opened, the EMU Student Center uses the slogan "Centered on You!". After its opening, the Student Center created a "new activity center on the north side of the campus". After the Student Center opened, Union McKenny was closed for renovation and reopened as McKenny Hall. Despite criticism from some faculty members about costing, the opening of the new student center is considered to be one of the high points of John A. Fallon's two-year term as troubled as EMU president. Polls from members of the campus community found that the student center was considered one of the ten major improvements of the EMU between 2002 and 2012.

Facilities
The building offers student services, Chase Bank branches, dining facilities, meeting rooms, two art galleries, administration offices, student organization offices, auditoriums, 24 hour computer labs, Kiva Room, bookstore and game center. The Student Center cost is estimated at around 40.5 million (USD). The architectural style of the building is Post Modern. The building is about 181,000 square feet (16,800m 2 ). The building is located at University Park near Rec/IM and Library. During construction, a lake is built adjacent to the Student Center. This completes an area known as "University Park". Outside the building to the south are reconstructed small meadows and bridges. The Student Center is home to offices such as Campus Life, VISION, box office, EMU Service, and Reception. The Student Center is the home of the first LAN Gaming Center ( Savage Gecko ); purchased by the university in spring 2008 and renamed E-Zone .
Current food vendors in the Student Center include sites run by EMU Eating Services, Smashburger and Starbucks. Past vendors include Taco Bell, KFC, Sbarro, Panda Express, Wendy's and Subway. In recent years, EMU has moved from chain restaurants to university-run and managed sites.
The facility is also widely used for local and state conferences. In addition, due to the building's design, the facility has hosted several "green" environmental conferences at the facility. Beyond this because of the school's flight program, the school has hosted several flight conferences.
Kiva Space
The Student Center also includes the Kiva Room, a 360-degree round room patterned after spaces used in Native American culture, on the north end of the third floor. The Kiva room is used as a meeting room, for collaboration, or for music purposes.
