Carowinds is a 400-hectare amusement park (160 m), located next to Interstate 77 in Charlotte, North Carolina. The park is located in the state line of Carolina, with a portion of the park also located in Fort Mill, South Carolina. The park opened on March 31, 1973, at a cost of $ 70 million. This is the result of a four-year planning period spearheaded by businessman Charlotte Earl Patterson Hall, who was inspired to build the park with a 1956 trip to Disneyland and a dream to bring the two countries closer. Owned and operated by Cedar Fair, Carowinds also has a water park of 27 acres (81,000 m 2 ), Carolina Harbor, which is included in the park entrance fee. The Carowinds theme park was originally envisioned as a major resort component that would include hotels, shopping malls, golf courses and NFL stadiums. However, attendance at Carowinds was limited by the 1973 oil crisis, and plans for the proposed resort were postponed. Hall and other shareholders of Carowinds Corporation continued to operate the playground until 1974, although a decreasing attendance and increased debt forced the company to sell Taft Broadcasting in early 1975. Ownership has been moved from the Family Fun Center - a joint venture between Taft and Value Top Company) Ã, - to Kings Entertainment Company, which in turn was acquired by Paramount. The park was purchased by Paramount Communications in 1993 and joined the Paramount Parks family. The park was renamed Paramount's Carowinds in 1993 and later became a Viacom asset after the Paramount acquisition in 1994.
The name "Carowinds" comes from the original theme of Carolina's history and culture park, and is a "Carolina" and "wind" portmanteau, referring to the wind that blows in two states. Carowinds operates seasonally from late March to early December, following Halloween events in the park, "Scarowinds", and Christmas events in the park, "WinterFest".
Sales to Cedar Fair
On January 27, 2006, Dayton Daily News reported that CBS Corporation (separate from Viacom at the end of 2005) will sell Paramount's Carowinds and other parks in the Paramount Parks division.
On June 30, 2006, Cedar Fair Entertainment Company acquired Paramount Parks, including Carowinds.
Although Cedar Fair continued to use Paramount's Carowinds name until the end of the 2006 season, it began to remove Paramount's name in press releases, park websites, and nameplates in the park. In January 2007, a new logo featuring the Cedar Fair icon but did not have the name "Paramount", was revealed on the park's website. The new logo shows the trademark Cedar Fair flag, flying in the letter "I" on the Carowinds name. Four other Paramount branded parks purchased by Cedar Fair all received similar changes. The name "Paramount" was dropped from all parks after the 2006 season.
Cedar Fair era
On 26 August 2013, Cedar Fair announced a $ 50 million investment plan to expand Carowinds for three years starting in 2014. The expansion includes a $ 30 million roller coaster, a $ 2.5 million water sled, a $ 7 million food complex, and $ 4 million to increase the park ticket booth and front area.
On August 21, 2014, Carowinds announced the addition of the Fury 325 for the 2015 season. Designed by Bolliger & amp; Mabillard, this rides is the fifth highest roller coaster in the world, after its debut in spring 2015 as another component of the previously announced "top down" expansion program. On August 27, 2015, Carowinds announced that a water park officially known as Boomerang Bay would be expanded and renamed the Carolina Harbor by 2016. The Australian theme will be removed and replaced with the Carolina port theme. The expansion includes a new six-slide complex, a new wave pool, and several new splash areas for children.
On August 18, 2016, Carowinds announced the expansion of the County Exhibition area, with the addition of 4 new rides: Electro-Spin (mondial top scan), Zephyr (Zierer Wave Swinger), Rock N Roller (Mack Rides Music Express), and Do-Si-Do (HUSS Troika). Carowinds also announced that Carolina Cobra will be renewed and renamed "The Flying Cobra". They also announced that the Wings restaurant will receive various improvements. Carowinds also announced the return of WinterFest, a Christmas event in November and December, which was previously operated in 2005.
For the 2018 season, the children's park area known as Planet Snoopy, expanded and converted into Camp Snoopy with the addition of six new children's rides.

Included in the admission price to Carowinds is a 27-acre Carolina Water water park access. Based on the Carolina Beach theme, features 15 rides and attractions. Originally opened as Sea Island in 1982, this water park is also known as Riptide Reef (1989-1997) WaterWorks (1997-2006), and Boomerang Bay (2007-2015). On August 27, 2015, Carowinds announced its 2016 expansion plan for an area that would add five additional attractions and result in a name change to Carolina Harbor.
WinterFest
Carowinds introduced WinterFest for the 2017 season. This seasonal holiday event features a garden decorated for Christmas season, tree lighting, Christmas singers, homemade crafts, and selected rides. This park previously had Winterfest in 2005 when it was owned by Paramount.
SCAROWINDS
In 2000, the park introduced SCarowinds; Halloween attraction yearly. SCarowinds is served on certain nights in September and October, as well as the first weekend in November. The park opens with The Great Pumpkin Fest starring Snoopy and the rest of the Peanuts gang throughout the day, usually closing at 5:30 pm, and reopened as SCarowinds at 7 pm with wicked witches and first woman SCarowinds from Lilith terror. The experience includes many haunted attractions and incorporating most of the existing park rides into a nightmare experience. The Scarowinds Halloween Haunt is recommended for ages 13 and over, but any age is allowed to enter.
Palladium
The Paladium is an outdoor amphitheater located in Carowinds. Opened in 1975 and was the location of the main outdoor concert in Charlotte until the opening of Blockbuster Pavilion, now PNC Music Pavilion, in 1991. Entrance to the Palladium is separate from the entrance to Carowinds. In 1992, Palladium hosted Chapel Hill, James Taylor. It has the Virginia Dave Matthews Band in '93, UK Depeche Mode in '94, Athens GA B-52 in '94, Johnny Cash in '95, Billy Ray Cyrus in '95, Blues Traveler in '96, Duran Duran in the UK on in 2000, Weird Al Yankovic in '00, Atlanta Christian rapper Lecrae in 2014 (for Rock the Park), and Skillet in 2015.
Fast Path
Fast Lane is a limited access point queue system offered at an additional cost at the Cedar Fair theme park. Visitors can purchase access, which includes a bracelet that allows them to skip the standard line for the shorter sake at many of the most popular attractions in the park. Fast Lane Plus is a more expensive, higher-end version that includes some additional attractions.
Carowinds Music Festival
The annual Carowind Music Festival allows music students to play in public performances and receive comments and ratings from nationally recognized jurors.
